Collaborative of Native Nations for Climate Transformation and Stewardship
IEMM and the Climate Science Alliance co-lead this initiative, which advances an Indigenous-led framework of land stewardship for climate adaptation and resilience.
The Collaborative of Native Nations for Climate Transformation and Stewardship (CNNCTS) takes a community-based approach that leverages our local networks and past project successes in Southern California. Together, we support coastal resilience, cultural and prescribed fire, climate-informed restoration, and land rematriation efforts that center community priorities and relationships with the land.
This unique initiative brings together Tribal governments, universities, Tribal-serving nonprofit organizations, and federal agencies. Our network generates opportunities to build capacity for Tribal communitites and cultivates learning, service, and research opportunities for students and scientists.
CNNCTS has five interconnected areas of focus to support Tribal-led stewardship:
-
advance science-informed climate action
-
translate knowledges into practice
-
put adaptation into action
-
expand landscape stewardship pathways
-
support social entrepreneurship
